Dog Scouts National Hike-a-Thon 2012

Across the nation, people and their dogs are hitting the trail this May. Join them in supporting Dog Scouts of America and their mission of responsible dog ownership. DSA's programs help keep dogs in lifelong, happy homes with responsible owners. Participants who raise $50 or more will be awarded the National Hike-a-Thon event patch (pictured above).  If you already have a patch from last year, the DSA board is looking into options of a patch with a year on it to add to your existing patch.

Prizes will be awarded to the top individual and troop fundraisers. (Anyone is welcome! - Participants do not need to be members of DSA.)

Start Date: Tuesday, May 01, 2011
End Date: Thursday, May 31, 2011

In Dog Scouts, dogs help people, people help dogs, and the whole community benefits.

Dog Scouts of America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible dog ownership, and to sharing positive and effective training methods that help keep dogs in happy lifelong homes and OUT of shelters. Along with national/global humane education programs, DSA supports local Dog Scout Troops that reach their communities at the grassroots level.

Your donation helps people and dogs and promotes responsible dog ownership.

DSA doesn't use your money for lobbying or political agendas.  DSA is a non-political organization, whose only position statement is against the use of harsh and force-based methods of dog training.

DSA maintains national programs such as its website full of free information on care and training of dogs, an open Yahoo discussion group on the care and training of dogs, and recognition programs designed to motivate people to learn more about positive and effective methods of training dogs, which they can in turn share with others.  DSA also hosts educational summer camps, member outings, seminars, and retreats.  Dog Scouts programs encourage people to spend quality time with their dogs, which we know benefits the health and welfare of both dogs and people.

People who enjoy their dogs, and how know how to solve common behavior problems, are FAR less likely to abandon their dogs at shelters.

DSA's local troops get together to learn new things, serve the community, and spend quality time with their dogs.  Some typical troop service projects include training dogs to ring bells for the Salvation Army's holiday kettle campaign and raising funds to support police K9s with safety equipment.  Troops also spread responsible dog ownership in their communities and are an excellent local educational resource.

Dog Scouts works at the national AND the grassroots level.  We inspire our members to a committment to serving their communities.
